I’ve been teaching meditation since 2003 after being trained for 6 years living in a Buddhist community and have always been sceptical of the binaural sounds and brain entrainment technology that claim to put the brain waves in certain frequencies that easily evoke meditation and induce deep relaxation. And that’s what I told the company Synctuition when they approached my to review their latest 3d sound technology products.
I said meditation is an art that requires discipline and commitment, strong introspection and other mental skills and not just listening to music and falling asleep. But the developers who have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars producing this new technology convinced me to try it so I decided to keep an open mind, give it a go and see what all the hype is about and that started my experience of Synctuition’s 3D sounds.
I guess firstly you should know about what entrainment is. The technology plays slightly different frequencies in each ear and your brain naturally harmonises those frequencies putting your brain into the same frequencies as experienced meditator’s achieve. This kind of brain training goes on unnoticed while you listen to pleasant nature sounds or relaxation music or these beautiful 3D sounds totally immersing you into the experience.
On a purely sound therapy level you are getting the relaxation response from gentle and beautiful music coupled with the brain entrainment putting your brain waves into the perfect state for intuition and relaxation.
That’s where a lot of reviews finish off. I can verify that it’s completely relaxing and if you have any trouble sleeping this is for you. I had difficulty getting through the 20-minute recordings before I would fall asleep. But I was asked to do this review because I am a meditation practitioner and teacher so here come the interesting and surprising benefits that not even the developers realised could happen.
The 3D sounds give you a real tangible experience of the spaciousness of awareness. The unbounded, clear and open nature of awareness is a key factor in discovering the bliss and joy of meditation. I can talk about it all day and I do rave on constantly about the spaciousness of awareness in my blogs, but the surprising part of this new 3D sound technology is it helps you to find this illusive nature or essence of your awareness. It helps to see the empty open nature of awareness by filling every corner with sound, therefore painting a musical picture of what the mystics are all pointing to. The sky like nature of awareness is a real treasure to discover and some say it’s the whole point of meditation.
Synctuition has been developed in cooperation with psychologists, neurologists, musicians, top sound engineers and meditation experts to mix 4 amazing technologies into a single soundwave to deliver you incredible results.
Also, the 3D sounds all happen in your headphones with your eyes closed and this is when another interesting thing can happen: you experience the spaciousness that the 3D sounds evoke but you also clearly know it’s all happening in your mind. Even though that bird call sounds like it’s coming from miles away, you know it’s all in your mind. This realisation is an important step in developing real insight and wisdom in meditation. Normally we hear a bird in the distance and our brain projects an image into the world and it ‘appears’ to be coming from the distance, but you’ve been tricked; the sound is all happening in your mind. When you have your headphones on your brain can’t trick you, you know for sure it’s all in your mind.
Ok so I might have gone a bit deep with it all, but I also found the 3D sounds do compliment my traditional meditation training. Recently my meditations have been settled which opens the way to easily accessing the spaciousness and peacefulness of mind. I attribute that to my nightly ritual of listening to Synctuition’s 3D tracks.
It’s in this complimentary nature to meditation that I highly recommend Synctuition’s 3D music. It really does help to relax which many people just cannot do on their own or with meditation alone. The relaxation alongside the inner spaciousness and mind experience it evokes is simply brilliant and will help deepen your meditation experience.
There is also a small amount of guidance at the beginning of each sound journey which really helps to focus your mind on the important issues in your life to be able to achieve breakthroughs and insights.
At the end of the day, after starting out a sceptic I now realise that people in this busy stressful modern life need all the help they can get when it comes to reducing stress and promoting calm and peace in their lives and I truly believe that Synctuition can help support people in doing just those things.
